While Covid19 has not been confirmed in Haiti yet, it has reached the island in the Dominican Republic. Please pray for our friends in Haiti, as we all pray for this virus. The Haitian healthcare system is inadequate to meet even the normal, day to day needs of the people of Haiti. You can imagine what would happen if even a mild outbreak began. The government of Haiti has closed the Dominican border and some flights into Haiti. Our ministry partners at GVCM are taking what preventative measures they can, to keep the virus from taking hold at the orphanage. They are also disseminating information to our partner churches and schools. Please continue to pray for everyone impacted by this outbreak.

We also have some very sad news to share with you. When I was in Haiti last week, I learned that Pastor Colomb died, unexpectedly. Pastor Yves performed the funeral service for Pastor Colomb this past Sunday. Please join us in praying for Pastor Colomb’s widow, his children, and the church in Passe Pomme. You can read more about Pastor Colomb and the church in Passe Pomme here.

Just nine months ago, I stood on the stage with Pastor Colomb and we dedicated the new church and school building. He was so happy and proud of the new building. And the church and ministry have been  growing. On June 2, 2019 I read these words to the congregation at Passepomme, from Matthew 16:18, “Jesus said, ‘I will build my church and the gates of Hell will not overcome it.’”

Those same words came to my mind last week, when I was standing next to Pastor Yves, when he received a phone call informing him of Pastor Colomb’s death. I’m thankful and encouraged that Jesus will keep building His Church – no matter what trials and difficulties come. And still our heart will break for our friends in Passepomme. Thanks for joining me in praying for them.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

Pastor Colomb was such a happy and joyful servant. He had a huge smile. When we dedicated the new church building, we had a team of high school students. Some of our girls needed to use the toilet. So as only a Pastor would, with a huge crowd gathered for the celebration and many people needing something from him, Pastor Colomb was running up and down a hill, sweating profusely to carry buckets of water for the girls to bucket flush.  No job was beneath Pastor Colomb’s servant heart – and he was smiling the entire time.
