“Red and Yellow, Black and White, they are precious in His sight. Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World.”

There’s a little place within the walls of the GVCM orphanage that is heaven on earth. It’s the “baby house.” It consists of a small building with 3 rooms inside and a small courtyard. The reason it reminds me of what heaven must be like is because of the incredible love I feel when I step inside the courtyard gate. As soon as I step into the courtyard, all the little kids from toddlers to preschoolers come running to meet me, with huge smiles on their faces, and hug me and hold my hand and touch my hair because it’s so different than their hair. They treat every person who visits them in this same way. There is so much love in this little place because these little children have the love of Jesus deeply planted in their hearts.

Last month when I was in Haiti, I decided to bring a toddlers Bible to read to these precious kids. They quickly sat down on the concrete of the courtyard to listen to the Bible. I opened to a page and turned the book around to show them the picture on the page. To my surprise they all shouted, “Moses”. After I read the story of Moses I turned to another page. “Paul!” They exclaimed. It then became a game. Whatever page I turned to they knew the Bible character and the story. Then the singing started. They would exclaim who the Bible story was about then they would all stand together and sing and clap and dance to a song about the story. I was overwhelmed at the knowledge of the Bible these 2, 3 and 4 year old children had. They were beyond adorable and so fun to listen to as they sang in beautiful unison. But even more than that, they have hidden God’s word in their hearts (Psalm 119:11).

Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” These children have the most wonderful nannies who teach them the Bible every single day. Their days are not consumed with a busy life of running errands, sports practices, screen time etc. like many of our American children. Their days consist of play time, school time and a rich and lengthy time of learning God’s word, prayer and singing praises to Him. That love they pour out to each person who walks through their gate is because they are filled with so much of the love of Jesus that is splashes on everyone around them. I have learned so much by visiting the baby house and these little ones inspire me to spend more time in God’s word and in worship to Him. I hope you are inspired too.
